Vintage has not only hit it off in fashion; the demand for vintage cameras such as the Polaroid and the Holga has also increased with the years, particularly since these plastic cameras from the 1920ies and 1980ies respectively was taken out of production.
Even with the most fancy digital camera out there they still cant measure up to dreamlike and charming photos these cameras produce. It is specifically The Holga´s ability to capture several images on top of each other creating a quite surreal photograph in its signature square format with faded corner and slightly washed out colors. Blending that with its user friendliness it is no wonder this camera has become so popular again. Considering the fact that it is as good as unbreakable in its durable plastic just adds to its greatness.

“The best way to see to truly see human nature is when it is not self conscious”. This was the starting point for Yasmine Chatila; a photographer and visual work artist based out of New York City, when she began working on her newest project. Capturing unsuspecting people through the windows of their homes catching them at their most natural yet vulnerable state of mind, bringing people watching to a completely new level.

The series of black and white photographs are a little muddy looking, unsharp and not so high on contrast, however this only adds to the feeling of being a fly on the wall and observing other people and their lives. The photos are intriguing and pull you in, they tap into that curiosity in people that makes us want to secretly watch other people, somewhat like the concept of Big Brother except much more sophisticated. This exhibition also brings up the sensitive subject of surveillance and privacy in everyday life; do we ever really know if we are being watched, videotaped or photographed to a certain extent that it becomes an invasion of privacy?

The exhibit can be viewed at Edelman Arts in New York City.

SOMA/Misson: Hipsters, emos, artists, all live hand in hand here, attending art gallery shows, rocking out at a concert or just unwinding in a bar. A diversity of different styles all mesh together creating a cool, unique and urban style.

Haight Ashbury: Flower power, dreads, colors and freedom of expression all come together in this neighborhood where you will most likely find the most original outfits of the city ranging from flowy dresses to interesting patterened knit sweaters, harem pants and from time to time you will see people how nature inteded it: naked.

Marina: Quaint little shops and cafés attract a young and stylish crowd. Crisp shirts, and the latest of the latest of it bags and shoes meet here to enjoy a lazy afternoon strolling around on union street enjoying a cofee at one of the many cafées.

Hayes Valley: Sunday brunches in this neighborhood makes for great people watching; goodlooking people wearing one of a kind pieces or garments from a brand most people havnt heard of yet all come here to mingle in this urbane and cozy neighborhood.

Pacific Heights: Classy and upscale people in all ages reside in this slightly more sophisticated corner of the city. This is the home of people with a classic style that never goes out of style and with an eye for real quality clothing. Regarless whether they are listening to jazz, eating at one of the many upscale resturants or enjoying a glass of wine at the local win bar; these people enjoy the good life.

Siri Tollerød has taken the fashion industry by storm with her angelic face and stunning body. Her capability to transform between different looks has landed her major campaigns for Lanvin, Valentino, and Costume National, she has walked all the big shows during Paris and Milan fashion week as well as been on the cover of numerous magazines such as Muse, Lula and Vogue. Despite the great demand, this Norwegian beauty has a good head planted on her shoulders prioritizing her education before anything else enabling her to take control over her own career and choices.

Lansing Dreiden is an art collective based out of New York City, experimenting with multimedia work as well as illustration, sculpture and written work. Musically they are know for their eighties pop and synth influences, experimental sound with a great focus on lyrics.

The music video for Glass Corridor, off the EP “The incomplete triangle” released in 2003, consists of a series of black and white illustrations all resembling different corridors; a pointer to the name of the song. As the song is progressing so does the corridors; very similar to a visualizer creating a slightly trippy state of mind while watching it. Although there is not much going on in the music video besides the visualizer illustrations; it is the simplicity of these intricate patterns that makes this music video noteworthy. First off; it is very deliberating seeing a band finally stepping away from the oh so predictable “performing the song ” format if only for 3.39 minutes, secondly; the music video is a perfect representation of who they are as a band and an art collective if looking at their previous body of work. It is interesting to see how the illustration correlates with the melody and beat of the song and how the graphics are interchanging with one another and lets not forget; the song itself is phenomenal.

Ever since seeing the fall2009 collection of Jeremy Laing, I have had a little crush on this man who makes magic with a piece of fabric and a sewing machine. The man who designs clothes that embodies that delicate, alluring and feminine elegance yet that has a small dose of masculinity to keep it modern. Creating dramatic shapes and silhouettes that are experimental yet flattering on the body; fabrics with interesting textures; seam placements out of the ordinary and geometric prints in colors that are pleasing to eye. He has the ability to execute all of this into one garment yet have the ability make it look effortless which is exactly why I have this infatuation with his work.

Courtney Love is one of many celebrities that could have benefited of covering up a tad bit more out in public. Revealing a great deal of skin works terrific in the bedroom, but when out and about the result of such can be disastrous. It doesn’t take much; just a few more inches of fabric and you are good to go.

Arrogance and ignorance. As a person who grew up with Janteloven imbedded in my mind arrogance an ignorance is particularly hard for me to put up with. Being humble towards other people and respect their beliefs and opinions is some of the best characters in a person, too bad not enough people have these qualities.
